Acest topic doreste prezentarea intr-o forma sistematizata a diferitelor proiecte de distributii de sine statatoare, live CD/DVD-uri, unele care au optiunea instalarii pe sistemul gazda, precum si a diferitelor proiecte de a inzestra Gentoo Linux cu un installer grafic. Pentru cei care doresc o distributie pe structura Gentoo, gata pregatita pentru o instalare rapida, pentru cei care doresc doar o intelegere a unei parti din mecanismele ce stau la baza acestei minunate distributii, prin intermediul unui live CD/DVD, fie ca doar doriti sa va personalizati instalarea sau sa demarati proiectul crearii unei noi distributii Gentoo-based, sper ca urmatoarele informatii sa fie de folos.
Pentru a tine pasul evolutia acestor distributii, ca si pentru completarea listei, ma bazez pe informatiile aparute la Distrowatch, Gentoo Forums si nu in ultimul rand homepage-ul respectivelor proiecte.
Ca observatie, lista distributiilor si a facilitatilor va fi actualizata in regim de o data pe luna.
Foarte posibila existenta unor altor proiecte, necuprinse in acest material sau existenta unor erori inerente.

Gentoo isn't a typical distribution like Debian or Slackware, it doesn't even have an installer, it is similar to making your own distribution. The main part of Gentoo is portage, a set of scripts for installing and removing programs. Homepage: I’ve spent my spare time the last week creating a livecd that is useful for broadcasting audio and video streams. I have got to my second iteration of this cd. I have used catalyst from the Gentoo project to create it. This cd therefore gives any machine with a sound card the ability to stream Ogg/Vorbis or MP3 audio using acast. Also it gives any machine with a v4l compatible card the ability to stream Mpeg4 video/audio to say clients such as Quicktime Player. And with the excellent Flumotion streaming server, it allows any machine with either a firewire port, a tv card, a webcam to stream Ogg Theora/Vorbis video/audio. Also, there is software for editing audio and tagging recordings and of course OpenOffice allowing powerpoint presentations to be displayed to projectors. For testing locally, the relevant streaming servers are already running when the cd is started.

Homepage: I must state that I adore the manual Gentoo way of installing. In fact, I swore against an installer for Gentoo for a long time and this stance has not changed. What I wanted however was a way to quickly re-produce a desktop installation for multiple machines. I also wanted a tool that I could give to friends who liked the idea of Gentoo but complained about the “compile time”. I don't think that missing out on the Gentoo experience because of “compile time” is valid and so I wanted a way to introduce my friends to Gentoo without having to build their systems myself. I cannot more strongly recommend the Gentoo install method if you are serious about learning both Gentoo and GNU/Linux in general. I owe Gentoo a lot – I played with Redhat back in 1998 (thanks to Andrew Tridgell) but then fell into RPM hell and went around from distro to distro in a mad seething rage of desperation. Then I came across Gentoo 1.1 and it was love at first install. So, if you're someone who doesn't want to wait to get a nicely configured Gentoo system, is so afraid of the standard install method that it's stopping you from trying Gentoo at all, or you're a lazy pig then this method is for you!

Pentru incepatori
Din cate stiu eu, installer-ul vidalinux se bazeaza pe anaconda (vezi rh, fc), asa ca operatii de genul /next/yes/finish nu vor tulbura pe nimeni..
Cine doreste un sistem gentoo la cheie, frumos colorat si gata dupa instalare, sa descarce vidalinux.
Navyn este de asemenea un proiect interesant, oferind un live-cd, care poate fi instalat ulterior pe hdd, avand fluxbox ca wm ... deci e super-rapid.
Daca va simtiti in puteri, puteti incepe gentoo direct din stage1... documentatia este foarte bine pusa la punct acum ... punerea unui sistem gentoo pe picioare (ma refer si la serverul X si un wm mai acatarii) depinde direct de conexiunea dvs. si performantele pc-ului (cpu + ram). Forumul si canalul irc va stau la dispozitie pt raspunsuri.

ps: ca o parere personala ...nu mi se pare valabil principiul ca daca esti incepator trebuie sa incepi cu mdk/fc/suse ... consider ca aceste sisteme 'la cheie' antreneaza o stare de multumire (hai lene mai pe romaneste ...) pentru marea majoritate a userilor. |

Ma gandesc la un blackbox sau fuxbox + superkaramba + some dockable apps, localizat pe cat se poate pentru .ro (caractere diacritice, etc), sa ruleze in 128Meg ram.
asta e buna cu superkaramba ....  ))) am cara dupa noi cate ceva din pachetele kde ... (cred ca nu putem evita nici qt)
monitorizare ? gkrellm e marele mancator de resurse in acest
caz (128mb) ... mai bine torsmo sau sysinfo !
ideal a fi, in cazul unui minicd, sa scapam de dependinte qt/kde/gnome (cel mult aplicatii bazate pe gtk/gtk2) ..in felul acesta se poate baga puternic pe diferite utilitare si alte programele 'designed for X'
o alta kestie cool ar fi un pachet lampp complet (pt a feri userul sa se oboseasca in configurarea php, mysql, apache, proftpd, phpmyadmin, blah)

damnsmalllinux te lasa sa adaugi pe cd in mod destul de elegant tot felul de packete binare cum ar fi firefox, open office, etc. La baza este doar o imagine de 50meg cu un fluxbox simplu, xmms si dilo ca browser. Pachetele binare sunt in format .tgz ca sa nu ocupe spatiu pe cd, iar la incarcare creaza automat un entry in meniul lui fluxbox si o icoana pe ecran.
As zice sa ramanem pentru inceput pe fluxbox fara superkaramba (aduce prea mult kde), abiword, xmms, mplayer/xine, firefox, mc (cool!), orice altceva ce se sugereaza aici.
Cu burnerele este mai greu, deoarece trebuie sa incarci tot cd-ul in memorie ca sa-l poti scoate si sa pui unul blank, ii vad pe cei de la damnsmalllinux facand asta, trebuie sapat.
Ne oprim la 210 mb pe cd, 128 mb ram, fara gnome si fara kde? Pareri? |
